a bit about me
I think it’s important you know who will be standing up there on the day with you, so here’s a little bit about me, why I became a celebrant and what I think makes the perfect ceremony...
Tēnā kōrua!
I grew up in a small town called Patumahoe just south of Auckland where Mum and Dad still live. I’ve been lucky enough to live and travel all over the world but have now settled into our home in Ōtara with my partner Malcolm, (who happens to be a DJ if you need one!) our toddler Ali'i, our baby Amaia and our Amstaff dog Charlie!
I whakapapa to Waikato-Tainui, so am Māori, as well as Chinese, Irish, Croatian and Lebanese. I would love to incorporate some reo Māori into your ceremony if that is what you would like. In fact, anything you’d like included to personalise your ceremony is fine by me, as it’s your day! So far I've been honoured to include a few words in Korean, Samoan, Tongan and German in ceremonies!
Public speaking is second nature to me and is something I’m often asked to do. I’ve been an MC and spoken at many weddings, events and awards ceremonies in both my personal and professional life.
In addition to being a wedding celebrant, I work as a community practitioner. I love making a difference in community engagement, development and empowerment.
I first became a celebrant because I was asked by some wonderful friends to be the celebrant for their wedding. It was such a privilege to be part of their special day and I enjoyed it so much I continued!
I believe my role as a celebrant on the day is to make everyone feel at ease. It's my responsibility to hold the space and manage anything that comes up (and it always does!)
The perfect ceremony to me is when couples have time to really celebrate who they are and the love they share. It's easy to get caught up in the details and planning of a wedding, but on the day an important part of my role is to give everyone a moment to catch their breath, be present and bask in the love that surrounds them!
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you plan your big day,
Arohanui!
